J. Matthew Gilmore, Esq.

J. Matthew (“Matt”) Gilmore has been a practicing attorney in the State of Maryland since 2002. Matt is a native of Cumberland, graduating cum laude from Frostburg State University in 1999 and the University of Baltimore School of Law in 2002. Matt has been an attorney with Geppert, McMullen, Paye & Getty since 2007, and currently serves as the firm’s Managing Partner. His practice focuses primarily on healthcare law and civil litigation. In February 2016, Matt was appointed General Counsel for UPMC Western Maryland, formerly Western Maryland Health System. UPMC Western Maryland is the largest employer in Western Maryland, with approximately 2300 employees. As General Counsel, Mr. Gilmore oversees all legal matters pertaining to UPMC Western Maryland, including governance, regulatory matters, mergers & acquisitions and litigation.

In his civil litigation practice, Matt has represented numerous business entities and individuals in complex legal matters. He has successfully tried cases in both Maryland State Courts and the United States District Court of Maryland. Matt also represents other businesses throughout Western Maryland. Matt is very active in his community, where he supports nonprofit organizations focusing on food insecurity, education and the arts. He was recently appointed to the Board of Directors for the Frostburg State University Foundation. Matt also serves on the Board of Directors for the Western Maryland Food Bank. Matt resides in Cumberland with his family.
