Bette Slayton
Bette Slayton has served as the president of the Bedford County Development Association since 1990.
During her tenure, BCDA has built two new business parks and two business centers. New employers were recruited including REI, the Walmart Distribution Center, CaptiveAire, MDL, DMP/MEC, Green Leaf Medical, Rex Heat Treat, Lampire Biological Laboratories and others. The $120 million restoration of the Bedford Springs Resort was successfully completed.
Slayton is a recipient of the Athena Award and BCDA has won the PA Economic Development Agency of the Year. She works closely with the BCDA board, an active, visionary group of local leaders that leads the county’s economic development initiatives. She is a charter member of the Bedford County Pink Ribbon Fund.
Slayton is a Wisconsin native who graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Agricultural Economics and completed graduate work at Montana State University. She worked in journalism and banking in Kansas City before moving to Pennsylvania.
Slayton and her husband, Paul, own a 320-acre purebred beef cattle farm, Slaytons’ BearDance, located in Dutch Corner, Bedford County.
